Welcome to the website of Dr. Ryan Utz, associate professor at the Falk School of Sustainability and the Environment at Chatham University. The campus of the Falk School is Eden Hall, a 388-acre campus with abundant forests and fields that provide ideal settings for ecological science. Research conducted by the students I mentor covers a broad range of systems but all involve applied ecological observations or experiments. Although my background primarily involves freshwater ecosystems, I am a facultative generalist and am open to starting new initiatives on organisms or systems that I know nothing about. Our ongoing projects range from long-term stream ecosystem monitoring to investigating the ecological impacts of nonnative terrestrial plants. If you are a current or prospective Chatham student interested in applied ecology and eager for experience outside of the classroom, please contact me!
